“Once upon a time, not so long ago in a not so far away, in a low-lying land called Koninkrijk der Nederlanden, I first met this guy. Surely that night will not be forgotten because in that premiere occasion he was asking permission to use the toilet in my apartment to puke. Masuk angin. Hehehe, he was confident that he can hang out in my balcony smoking kretek without proper jacket and underestimate the cruel Dutch windy weather. (Sorry mbul, it’s not afdhol if I’m not opening the story without reveal your aib :p)
Mbul was a jomblo by demand back then, because there were no demands at all. He was a PhD student in the perils of procrastination, conducting research in sustainable development issue and also in search for his lost rib. But he wasn’t a lonely guy he had many female companions, Indonesian and internationals, most of them found such a comfort to curhat session with him. Maybe because this matures yet funny guy is such a kebapakan. Peace bro.
Anyway, Plato once said that God originally created human as a hermaphrodite, then turn out that human was so perfect that God decide to split it apart. Faith decides that both parts eagerly look for each other to achieve perfectness. That perfectness finally came. Those imperfect blend in the keyword ‘high’. The lost rib was located in a high valley known as Bandung, a high quality mojang named Mbil. She was originated from highland called Salatiga, while the other part is doing higher education in a country that people can easily get high. They squeezed the long distance by high speed bandwidth. High five.
One part is a newly establish-self proclaimed best selling book co-author, while the other part is an enthusiastic professional book translator for a living. Both are addictive to books. He read Khaled Hosseini and she translated it. I love to imagine both read Hosseini books together in a comfy couch. When I first introduced to Mbil by Mbul, I knew at first sight that both are finally found their own version of what Khaled Hosseini once wrote, “…the noor of my eyes and the sultan of my heart.”
